چکیده

We study the effect of source and channel coding separation in communication networks. While in general separating source and channel coding is sub-optimal, we show that in all communication networks (noisy or noiseless, wireless or wireline, with memory or memoryless, . . .), with independent Gaussian sources and arbitrary demands, there always exists a separated scheme that achieves a distortion region within a constant multiplicative factor of the best possible distortion region. This constant is independent of the communication network parameters and only depends on the number of nodes in the network, hence the separation is uniformly near optimal.

A New Method based on Intelligent Water Drops for Multicast Routing in Wireless Mesh Networks

In recent years a new type of wireless networks named wireless mesh networks has drawn the attention of researchers. In order to increase the capacity of mesh network, nodes are equipped with multiple radios tuned on multiple channels emerging multi radio multi channel wireless mesh networks. Therefore, the main challenge of these networks is how to properly assign the channels to the radios. O...

Linear Network Codes: A Unified Framework for Source, Channel, and Network Coding

This report is a summary of the issue of separation and code design for network data transmission environments, as discussed in the paper by Effros et al. [1]. It is often considered that the failure of source-channel separation in network environments is a crucial obstacle in applying information theoretic tools in networks. However, with a consistent framework for digital networks, the source...

A Survey on Multicast Routing Approaches in Wireless Mesh Networks

Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) which mediates the broadband Internet access, have been recently received many attentions by the researchers. In order to increase capacity in these networks, nodes are equipped with multiple radios tuned on multiple channels emerging multi radio multi-channel WMNs (MRMC WMNs). Therefore, a vital challenge that poses in MRMC WMNs is how to properly assign channels ...

Linear Network Codes: A Unified Framework for Source, Channel, and Network Coding

We examine the issue of separation and code design for network data transmission environments. We demonstrate that source-channel separation holds for several canonical network channel models when the whole network operates over a common finite field. Our approach uses linear codes. This simple, unifying framework allows us to re-establish with economy the optimality of linear codes for single ...

Raw Multi-Channel Audio Source Separation using Multi-Resolution Convolutional Auto-Encoders

Supervised multi-channel audio source separation requires extracting useful spectral, temporal, and spatial features from the mixed signals. The success of many existing systems is therefore largely dependent on the choice of features used for training. In this work, we introduce a novel multi-channel, multiresolution convolutional auto-encoder neural network that works on raw time-domain signa...
